Music lovers can again look forward to the annual ‘Fete de la Musique’ set to take place on 25 June at the FNCC in Windhoek.

Celebrating music as a language understood by all, the World Music Day was founded in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture, and is held on the same day in more than 1 000 cities in 120 countries. 

The 25th anniversary of the event in Namibia promises a host of undiscovered and unfiltered local Namibian musicians, according to FNCC communications officer Fabienne Conradie.

She said they were not looking for the perfect singer or perfect musician. Rather, they were looking for “raw, unfiltered” talent that has the potential to reach great heights. 

“We were looking for a mix of everything – from rap, hip hop, acoustic to classical, as well as soloists to larger bands performing. Most of the artists who auditioned have never sung in front of people, let alone a crowd. This is the perfect opportunity for them to showcase what they have to offer,” explained Conradie.

The celebratory concert will feature live performances by musicians, vocalists, instrumentalists and bands from 11h00 until well into the night, and will take place alongside a second-hand goods market hosted by Back2School Namibia. 

The primary aim of celebrating World Music Day is to provide free music to everyone and to encourage singers/ musicians, etc to showcase their work to the world.

By organising and hosting the event, the FNCC remains a staunch supporter and promoter of Namibian artists and cultural projects by offering their know-how, resources, and equipment.
