Young DJ ready to inspire peers

Local DJ Gianni Fernandes known as DJ Escondido has been making waves on the music scene, one event at a time. From humble beginnings of finding solace in music during school studies to becoming a sought-after performer at various local pubs and clubs, DJ Escondido has carved a niche for himself in the industry.

“I don’t play a selective genre. I play a huge variety of genres, and I like dancing to different beats when DJing. With a diverse range spanning across genres, his performances are a fusion of musical flavours that cater to the eclectic tastes of the audience,” he said.

But behind the turntables lies a deeper connection to faith and community. Before an event, DJ Escondido said he prays and asks for guidance to be led through.

Every event is a learning experience, with each crowd presenting a unique dynamic and it is an opportunity to learn something from every crowd and play to the energy of the audience, he said.

“With a passion for Latin music and an ear for the latest trends, I keep my finger on the pulse of the industry. You have to be on top of the latest music and styles, at the same acknowledging the constant evolution of musical preferences,” he said.

Looking ahead, DJ Escondido is eager to be part of more upcoming projects and collaborate with local artists. Their annual Year End Glow Beach Party in Walvis Bay has become a signature event, drawing crowds of over 1 500 people, and earning praise for its family-friendly atmosphere.

He will be performing at the MTC Teen Inspirational Summit which is taking place on 30 March at the IUM’s main campus, where he hopes to inspire youth to pursue their dreams and glean insights from international artists to enrich the local music scene. -priscillamukokobi@gmail.com
