OSHAKATI – The Namibian police regional Commander for the Oshana region, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, has confirmed the arrest of six suspects in connection with a violent attack on a 30-year-old female public prosecutor at Ondangwa last month.
The prosecutor was allegedly ambushed on 17 October while driving to work at the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court.
During a media briefing on Tuesday, Sakaria said the prosecutor was shot at, doused with a mixture of hydrochloric and sulphuric acid, and had her vehicle windows shattered.
He added that investigations have established that the attack was directly linked to her official duties in a high-profile criminal prosecution.
“Investigations have conclusively established that the motive behind this attack was directly connected to the victim’s official capacity as a public prosecutor in a high-profile criminal matter involving Abner Mewiliko ‘Mateus’ with the alias ‘Kapilili’, who has been identified as the suspected mastermind behind this criminal syndicate and who happened to be in police custody at the time of the planning this attack,” Sakaria said.
He added that the suspects face multiple serious charges, ranging from attempted murder, corruption, possession of fake money, stolen items, and drugs.
“These individuals face a wide scope of serious charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, malicious damage to property, corruption and corrupt practices, contraventions of the Arms and Ammunition Act 7 of 1996, contraventions of the Prevention of Counterfeiting of Currency Act 16 of 1965 for being found in possession of fake banknotes, theft or alternatively possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of cannabis or other drug-related offences,” Sakaria said.
