Namibian international footballer Willy “Awilo” Stephanus could be on the move again after an impressive spell with Saudi Arabian second division side Hetten FC.
Stefanus, who joined Hetten FC in September last year following a standout season with local giants African Stars, where he won the PST NFA Cup, MTC Maris Cup, won the League Golden Boot twice, recording 52 goals, 49 assists from 103 games, and 101 goal contributions.
With Hetten FC, he registered six goals and eight assists in 16 matches for the Saudi outfit. Despite his strong performances, the attacking midfielder revealed that circumstances beyond his control may force him to seek a new club.
“Every team in this division is only allowed to register four foreign players. The coach’s agency has a player who failed at another club, and because he failed there, they had to sacrifice me so that he could be signed, since we play the same position,” Stephanus explained.
The Brave Warriors international also confirmed that his visa is nearing expiry, adding further urgency to the situation. He said his agent is currently working tirelessly to secure a new club and resolve the necessary administrative matters.
Despite the setback, Stephanus spoke positively about his time at Hetten FC, describing it as a valuable experience in his career.
“It was a great environment to play in, very competitive and professional. I learned a lot during my time here, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. I’m now looking forward to the future and the next challenge.”
