Tech & Society Week: A safer digital future

CcHUB hosted its first-ever Tech & Society Week in Windhoek, themed ‘How ready is Namibia for the digital future?’

The three-day event took place at the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board and CcHUB Namibia. ‘

It brought together innovators, digital rights advocates, policymakers and civil society groups to explore the intersection of technology, governance and civic participation.

The event initiated important conversations around digital safety, data protection and responsible technology use.

“Technology precedes regulation. However, regulation maintains the rights of the people who use that technology,” said Wuraola Taiwo, CcHUB’s senior programme manager for digital security.

The workshops and breakout sessions focused on real world issues such as cybersecurity awareness, artificial intelligence ethics and the spread of misinformation through social platforms.

For many participants, the experience offered both practical skills and encouraged collective responsibility. “When people can tell the difference between a data breach and a malware attack, they can better protect their assets and demand accountability from institutions,” Taiwo added.

CcHUB’s senior programme manager for election and governance Yvonne Eweka said digital inclusion and trust remain central to Namibia’s technological development.

“Closing the digital divide, inclusive advocacy strategies and data protection & safety are crucial for building citizens’ trust and engaging in the digital space,” she said.

Attendees walked away from the workshop with an understanding of how collaboration and cyber safety can have an impactful change.

CcHUB Namibia announced plans for ongoing community engagements to keep the momentum.

As Musa Sani, CcHUB’s cyber threat intelligence specialist, put it, “People are curious, engaged and ready to shape the systems that will define our digital future”.
