The Central Elite Social Volleyball League season for 2026 was launched on Saturday, the 14th of February. The league aims at “giving back to the community,” according to the chairperson of the league, Riri Mutendere.
“We are driven by our corporate social responsibility; hence our donations will be made to Katutura Hospital because our games will be played here,” she said.
Lazarus Shiimi, Namibia’s own Gazza, attended the official launch as an invited VIP guest to share the moment and experience the feel of the game.
“First, it was good for fitness… and we raised some funds, and we’re going to continue to raise more funds for the Katutura Hospital Children’s Ward. As you saw during the handover, as a collective, the teams also got together some pads for the girl child,” she acknowledged.
Naboth De Celestino from the Katutura Hospital management received the donation of pads 240, as well as funds that will be given to the hospital at the end of the league.
“Management will sit and identify a particular ward that is going to benefit. We have mothers taking care of their little ones who are currently hospitalised, as well as female patients who may be in need,” she explained.
Mutendere also stated that the financial donations will be kept sealed until the league ends, adding that the league will only be playing one game per month with 20 registered teams.
“We are only going to keep sealed stamps on the donation piggy banks until the end of the year, when the league ends.”
She added that this initiative is not only focused on the girl child, but that more avenues will also be made available for the boy child.
