WALVIS BAY – President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged local and regional authority candidates not to betray the trust of the people, but to deliver on the promises they made.
The Swapo president made the call during the launch of the party’s regional councils and local authority election campaign ahead of next month’s polls.
The campaign, launched under the theme “Unity in Diversity: Natural Resources Beneficiation & Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development,” reflects the priorities of the 8th Administration.
Addressing thousands of supporters at the Kuisebmond Stadium on Saturday, the President said the elections are crucial for the party and for Namibians, who will be voting for leaders at the grassroots level.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said regional councils and local authorities are vital to government in terms of providing essential services.
“These structures are critical for delivering water, sanitation, housing, electricity, roads, and other services that directly impact the lives of our people. They are the frontline of government, ensuring no Namibian is left behind,” she said.
The president then reminded Namibians of the promises the party made during the 2024 presidential and National Assembly elections.
“We have delivered on what we promised and are ready to continue serving our people. But to do so, we need your support in the upcoming regional and local authority elections,” she said.
The President added that unity and inclusivity across all communities, regardless of tradition, race, or religion, remain key priorities, and that Swapo remains committed to a Namibia where every citizen can participate, benefit from development, and see tangible improvements in their daily lives.
“These elections are an opportunity to strengthen democracy and ensure service delivery continues at all levels. We are also not here to compete with our youth. We are preparing them to carry the torch and continue building a greater Namibia,” she told the gathering.
According to her, it is important that the party commits to grooming young leaders who will advance sustainable development and inclusive governance.
The President added that regional councils and local authorities are the heart of the governing system. They are the closest institutions to the people, responsible for delivering essential services, driving local development, and uplifting the dignity of citizens.
“A people united, striving to achieve the common good for all members of society, will always emerge victorious,” the president said.
