Windhoek Hockey returns for the third year

Windhoek Hockey returns for the third year

The Windhoek Hockey Tournament is back for its third consecutive year.

It promises an exciting and action-packed event that will bring together hockey players from across Namibia.

This year’s tournament will feature 11 schools, namely Windhoek High School, Windhoek Gymnasium, Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool, St. Paul’s College, St. George’s Diocesan School, Private School Swakopmund, Edugate Academy, School of Excellence, Keetmanshoop Private School and Walvis Bay Private School Pro-Ed Akademie.

The event will take place from Thursday to Saturday, with a total of 672 hockey players competing.

Matches will be held at two venues: Windhoek High School and the WAP astro at Wanderers.

The competition will showcase three leagues: first, second and third, ensuring players of all skills levels can participate.

A new addition to the third league is the U/13 age group, which will provide a platform for younger players to participate and gain valuable experience.

As the first competitive event of the season, the tournament serves as a vital stepping stone for players, preparing them for upcoming tours and competitions throughout the year.

Additionally, it offers a chance to develop players who are not part of the first teams.

In a bid to further enhance the sport, the tournament will also focus on umpire and coach development, ensuring all those involved gain valuable skills and knowledge.

“We are thrilled to host the tournament for the third year in a row,” said Nevil Gora, the tournament organiser.

“This event is a celebration of hockey talent from across Namibia. We are excited to see the players, coaches and umpires come together to showcase their skills and passion for the sport,” he added.

The tournament promises to be a memorable experience for participants and spectators alike, with thrilling matches and a festive atmosphere.

Organisers express their gratitude to sponsors, volunteers and supporters who have made this event possible.
