Young diplomats in Namibia host first meet and greet

Young professionals in Namibia’s diplomatic and international relations circles gathered for the inaugural Young Diplomats in Namibia Meet and Greet, held at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre in Windhoek recently.

The event marked a milestone for a growing network that aims to connect early-career diplomats, attachés, interns and aspiring professionals passionate about global affairs.

The initiative, which began as a simple idea among peers, has rapidly evolved into a vibrant and diverse community.

With 51 members representing both local and international backgrounds, the network seeks to mirror the dynamism of Namibia’s emerging diplomatic generation.

“Our network reflects the diversity and energy shaping Namibia’s new generation of diplomatic practitioners,” said Wilikka Absalom, one of the initiators.

The gathering was set as a forum for sharing ideas, experiences and aspirations.

Attendees engaged in lively discussions about professional development, collaboration and the importance of creating an inclusive, safe space, where young people in diplomacy can connect, exchange ideas and grow together.

The event also provided a preview of the network’s upcoming activities.

Planned initiatives include discussion forums on global and regional issues, embassy visits, mentorship programmes and cultural exchanges.

“The goal is to build a community that supports one another’s growth while engaging meaningfully on issues that shape diplomacy today. The network’s vision is to provide a platform for dialogue, learning and connection among Namibia’s next generation of global thinkers,” Absalom stated.

The network is about creating a community where young people in diplomacy feel seen, supported and inspired to make an impact.

The Young Diplomats in Namibia’s network is independent, non-official and non-partisan, a defining feature that encourages openness and inclusivity.

Members are invited to propose and organise activities collaboratively.

“Whether it’s a meet-up, talk or a project, we organise it together,” Absalom remarked.
