Zambezi bream festival open to all

Zambezi bream festival open to all

KATIMA MULILO – The Zambezi Bream Festival and Cultural Expo is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the region’s rich heritage, enjoy delicious food and support local businesses.

This was said by Katima Mulilo mayor John Ntemwa as he extends an invitation to all to attend the event, which also marks its 10th year.

“We invite everyone to join us at the bream festival and cultural expo. Come and experience the unity, diversity, and economic growth our community has to offer” Ntemwa said during an interview with New Era.  He said patrons can enjoy the famous Zambezi bream during the event, adding that there will be plenty of fish available for cooking demonstrations and tasting. “Local vendors will have the opportunity to sell their products that include crafts, food and many others. The cost of a stall will be made known soon, and we encourage local businesses to participate in the festival,” he said.

The event, which Ntemwa said celebrates the Zambezi bream and the rich cultural diversity of the region, will run from 4 to 10 August.

The festival aims to unite different
communities, promote local businesses and support economic growth. “The festival also highlights sustainable fishing practices and environmental conservation. It provides a platform for local artisans, musicians and chefs to showcase their talents, enhancing cultural appreciation and economic opportunities for residents of Katima Mulilo and the region,” he said.

This is not the first time the Katima Mulilo town council has hosted the festival.

The festival and cultural expo started in 2014, and has become an annual event. However, it was suspended for a while due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event will be hosted at the Zambezi Waterfront Tourism Park.

“We expect to attract a lot of visitors from the region and beyond, including tourists and cultural enthusiasts,” he added. anakale@nepc.com.na
