The National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) has expressed confidence it will emerge victorious in many local authorities in scheduled regional and local authority elections, party secretary general Josef Kauandenge has said.
Kauandenge said this while speaking at the party rally held at an open space in the DRC settlement in Swakopmund on Saturday.
Namibians are going to the polls on 25 November to elect a new regional council and local authority leaders.
Nudo currently has representatives in the Windhoek, Swakopmund, Gobabis, Leonardville, Otjinene, Okakarara and Ruacana local authorities.
The party also runs the constituency of Okakarara in the Otjozondjupa region, as well as Otjinene and Aminuis in the Omaheke region.
“The Swapo slogan that ‘We have heard you’ is just political gimmicks and nothing else. We can’t believe that Swapo was dead for over 30 years not to hear the cries of the Namibian people when it comes to service delivery,” Kauandenge told his party supporters in reference to the ruling party’s new mantra.
He said Namibians have come of age and they can’t be lied to by Swapo any longer.
“It is time to vote Swapo out in many local authorities in these upcoming elections. Nudo is confident enough that we will emerge victorious in many of these local authorities as well,” he
said.
“Local authorities are underfunded from central government. There is not enough money flowing down to local authorities hence the current problems we encounter of lack of housing, sanitation, electricity and water provisions,” he added.
