Cyclist Anri Greeff completed a remarkable double on Sunday morning, successfully defending her Union Cycliste Internationale elite women’s national titles at the Nedbank Namibian National Road Cycling Championships for a second consecutive year.
She added the road race crown to her individual time trial title after powering to victory in the 114 kilometres elite women’s race held east of Windhoek.
She crossed the finish line ahead of Delsia Janse van Vuuren, who was crowned the new national Under/23 (U) champion, while Belinda van Rhyn finished third.
Reflecting on her performance, Greeff said the conditions were challenging, but she executed her race plan well.
“It was a hot day, but I managed to get away early,” she said.
“I’m happy to keep the title. The next big thing is the Cape Epic. It will be my first time competing there, and it will be very tough,” she added.
In the U/23 men’s category, Roger Suren claimed the Nedbank Road Race title to be crowned the new national champion.
Suren edged out Alex Miller in a thrilling sprint finish.
“The sprint was hard. We played a cat-and-mouse game, but I just kicked. I will be doing a lot of racing in Europe,” he said.
