WINDHOEK – The investigation into the causes of the fatal crash of LAM flight TM 470 in the Bwabwata National Park, in the Kavango East Region last week Friday continues, according to Nampol Deputy Inspector General for Administration, Major-General James Tjivikua.
Major-General Tjivikua said this during a media briefing yesterday at police headquarters in Windhoek. “The Government of the Republic Namibia has prioritized this tragedy and will spare no efforts or costs to conclude the investigation process in the shortest possible time-frame, while observing international best practices,” Tjivikua said. The investigation will consist of two phases, which are the investigation and reconstruction of the air crash, as well as the identification of the mortal remains of the victims.
“Given the fact that the victims are nationals of different countries, this investigation will be jointly carried out in conjunction with delegated teams of specialists from the respective countries,” the deputy inspector general said. Last Friday LAM flight TM 470 crashed in the Kavango East Region killing 33 people on board, including all crewmembers. Tjivikua also said the investigation would determine whether the crewmembers and passengers were 34 or 33 in total.
