By Surihe Gaomas WINDHOEK As a token of gratitude to the general public for their support at the recent Windhoek Industrial and Agricultural Show, Air Namibia yesterday gave lucky draw competition winners four regional and international tickets. The draw was held at a press briefing yesterday, and the air tickets, which exclude airport taxes, will now be handed over to the lucky winners. The names of the four lucky airline ticket winners are: Harold Hange and Walsey Makaula for the regional trips, and Joe McGann and L.N Nelumbu for the international tickets. The winners will have to choose their destinations and flight times, as long as these fall in line with the airline’s travel arrangements. The competition fell in well with the company’s 60th anniversary celebrations this year. The airline company also raised funds for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, which will go towards assisting Namibia’s orphans and vulnerable children. Air Namibia’s General Manager of Commercial Services, Helois //Hoabeb, said the gesture is part of their social corporate responsibility to the general public for their continued support of the company. He said the airline experienced an “increase in traffic growth and cargo volumes,” which added to the company’s success. “During this year’s Windhoek Show, the public were instrumental in our great success, and we were even accorded a Gold Award at the stand,” added //Hoabeb. During the show which has just ended, Air Namibia introduced two new items on its exhibition list. One was the much talked-about ‘Simulator’ machine where the public had the opportunity of being a pilot and experienced the feel of being in an aeroplane for the first time. //Hoabeb said this attracted a lot of attention as many people came to try out the latest structure at the Air Namibia stand. Secondly, well-known figures like former Big Brother and current Egoli actor, Stefan Ludik, and Miss Namibia 2006, Anna Nashandi, stood behind Air Namibia to raise funds for destitute children in Namibia. The money was then handed to Telen Rukero of Hope Aids Group under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare. “Time has come for us to reach out to the vulnerable children of Namibia and to assist in creating and developing new leaders who will take this country into the competitive world in a couple of years,” added //Hoabeb.
