WINDHOEK – A South African national who allegedly defrauded hundreds of thousands from various clients of Serfontein and Sohrada Safaris appeared in court yesterday.

Willem Johann Serfontein (44) made his first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He was not asked to plead and the case was postponed to 19 September for a formal bail application to be made in a special court. It is alleged that Serfontein during 2007 up to August in Windhoek this year pretended to various clients of Serfontein and Sohrada Safaris that he is authorised to facilitate the sale of game and also that payment for the sale of the game be effected into his personal bank account.

Serfontein through this managed to defraud clients of Serfontein and Sohrada Safaris of amounts totalling N$425 000, it is alleged. Serfontein was arrested on 10 September in Windhoek and remains in police custody at the Windhoek Police Station holding cells. He is represented by attorneys Chris Visser and Samantha Diergaardt.
