Bank Windhoek Fistball League off to good start

Home Sports Bank Windhoek Fistball League off to good start

Swakopmund

The first round of the Bank Windhoek Fistball League took place at the Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC) in Swakopmund over the weekend.

Cohen 1 and SKW 2 won all their matches in their respective league divisions. In the first encounter in the national A-league the two club teams from Cohen faced each other. The first team had no problems advancing to a quick 3:0 set margin. Only in the fourth set did the second team come back into the match, forcing Cohen 1 to make errors.

Deservingly, they took that set. As the game continued Cohen 2 proved to be a force to be reckoned with as their spiker, Fritz Röthel, pressured the defence successfully. However, Cohen 1 managed to get the better of the sets and won in the end with 5:1.

In the clash of the titans between titleholder SKW 1 and opening tournament victors Cohen 1, Cohen took SKW by surprise in the first set conceding only their first point after an 8:0 lead and winning the set comfortably, as well as two sets thereafter.

With SKW bringing on ex-national player Christoph Kubirske new tension was created. The defence of Cohen was unable to return his spikes and SKW won the fourth set, cutting the score to 3:1.

However, Cohen 1 was not to be outdone. Although the defence of SKW 1 with Marc-Andre Witte, Stephan Zimny and Oliver Lerch were pretty solid they could not counter the powerful spikes of Tristan Minz and Rico-Kühnle Kreitz and Cohen finished the game with a deserving 5:1 victory.
