Barloworld Gives Back to Society

By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK Barloworld last year contributed to a number of deserving community projects as part of its effort to live up to its aim of being a responsible and progressive corporate citizen, the company says. A statement released by the company said although it has a number of strategies to contribute to the communities in which it operates, it is particularly proud of its annual Management Community Outreach Programme. Every December the company selects at least three deserving projects, in which the senior management team including Managing Director Deena Chetty, gets involved by actually working on the projects. They conduct a needs analysis before the work takes place, in conjunction with the management of the selected projects, to determine what is urgent and important. Once this is agreed, Barloworld allocates a budget and the work then takes place. In December and throughout the year several projects were covered. Staff and management of Barloworld Equipment renovated the Helping Hands Old Age Home in LÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚¼deritz. Barloworld Logistics assisted with the building of steel shelves for a library and wooden partitioning for a classroom at Ombili Bridging School. The company donated paint for the World Aids Day wall paint project and the painting of the wall at the SOS Children’s Village (Windhoek). One of its subsidiaries, ZA Trans Logistics carried out refurbishing of the bathroom and painting of the home at the Jonah Home for Children (Walvis Bay). In addition, the children received new bedding. Barloworld says other deserving causes that received the company’s time and resources include the Mogagabe Orphanage and Kindergarten in Katutura, where it paved a portion of the property, and concrete tables as well as benches were built. The company also undertook repairs of playground equipment and the painting of the front wall. At the Bernard Nordkamp Community Outreach Centre in Katutura, Barloworld renovated the library and painted the playroom walls. “Barloworld does not stand aside from the societies in which it operates. Moreover, it is not only the provision of money to deserving causes that is important but the time and expertise of management,” Chetty emphasised. Barloworld Namibia is part of Barloworld Limited, and describes itself as a global industrial brand management company, providing products and business solutions through leading industrial brands supported by service, smart partnerships and attention to detail to make its customers’ businesses excel.
