2015-03-03Staff Report 2 RUNDU - The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) has donated a traffic simulation field to Noordgrens Secondary School and renovated and upgraded the school, all at a cost of N$135 843. The renovations included the school’s playgrounds for grades 1 and 2. The traffic simulation field is meant to help learners on how best to use a road when crossing in an urban environment and shows the most important road signs, namely, the pedestrian crossing sign, the speed limit sign, the yield sign and the stop sign. The donation was made possible after one of the longest serving teachers of the school, Shikukutu Flora, wrote a letter to the MVA management requesting assistance to renovate and upgrade the children’s playground. “I phoned the MVA CEO, Conrad Lutombi, to request assistance and I was asked to write a letter. I then did that plus prepared a proposal which I emailed the following day. They responded and said that since my request is only to renovate and upgrade the playground they will add a traffic simulation field. We are very thankful to the MVA for the generous donation,” elaborated Shikukutu. Noordgrens Secondary School is not only a secondary school but has classes from grade 1 to 12 and is one of the oldest schools in Rundu. Speaking on behalf of the Kavango East Governor, Dr Samuel Mbambo, Councillor Joseph Sivaku of Kahenge Constituency urged learners to be responsible and wary when crossing roads. “The road was built for cars not for people to walk on so you must take care when doing that. But when you cross you have to look right, left and right again before crossing,” Sivaku advised learners at the school.
