Magazine wishes to empower women in sport

Aiming to empower women in sport, television sports anchor Joviita Kandjumbwa launched ‘She Reps’ sports magazine earlier this week.

She is determined to educate young Namibian women on sport and leverage them to take it on as a professional career.

Speaking to New Era Sport, Kandjumbwa said the idea of a magazine dates back to when she attended a women in sport summit in 2019 in Accra, Ghana.

It was the first of its kind, and she was inspired by what some of the journalists in other countries were doing for their women in sport.

“The summit covered more on challenges that we face as women in sport and what could possibly be a way to take information out there as women,” she said.

“While at the summit, many women shared their ideas and what they were doing for women in their countries, and that prompted me to come up with something to empower our women in
sport.”

So, Kandjumbwa decided to create a platform that will educate and teach women – ‘She Reps’ sports magazine.

“I decided to start a magazine that would cover extensively women who are in sport. This magazine is to uplift women who are doing good and also give information to women.”

‘She Reps’ brings a fresh perspective on a variety of sports codes and takes its readers behind the scenes with their favourite sports stars. She envisions the magazine to become the leading and most trusted national multimedia network, telling the story of Namibian women in sport.

For the time being, the magazine will go online with fresh content daily, but the first physical copy will be out early next year and she intends on publishing twice a year.

But this, however, depends on how the nation will receive its content.

“If the demand is high, it will then push us to publish more content. But for now, we are only planning on having it published twice a year. We will have our website up and running from the beginning of next month,” said Kandjumbwa.
