2015-11-23Staff Report 2 Windhoek The vehicle of a 29-year-old man who was kidnapped by four men masquerading as members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) has been recovered. About three months ago Livio Goodheart – who was on his way to his brother’s house – was robbed of his Fiat Bravo vehicle when four men pretending to be NDF officers drove off with him after he failed to show them his driver’s licence. Although the men were never apprehended for their deeds and their intentions for kidnapping Goodheart remain unknown, the vehicle which Goodheart lost during the escape was recovered on Tuesday night, the police confirmed last week. Detective Ruben Kanime of the motor vehicle theft unit of the Namibian Police told New Era last week that the vehicle was recovered in Wanaheda. New Era understands that the car was sold last month for N$16 000. “The person in whose possession the vehicle was found explained that he bought the car from somebody. There was a sales agreement,” said Kanime. The buyer paid N$11 000 and was waiting for the seller to bring the car’s papers before he would pay the remaining N$5000. “I am happy that my car was recovered,” said Goodheart, who explained that his friend spotted the car in Katutura. “My friend told me that he saw my car in Katutura and when we confirmed the registration number we alerted the police,” said Goodheart. The turbo and intercooler in the vehicle were removed and the buyer of the vehicle had to replace them. “I feel bad that he (the buyer) was caught up in this but I am happy that my car was found because I lost a lot,” said a relieved Goodheart. Kanime said there are many cases of theft of motor vehicles reported to the police. “Most of them are taxis that have been robbed. We will leave no stone unturned in fighting this kind of crime. So far, there are no stolen vehicles that have not been recovered, especially taxis,” he added. 2015-11-23Staff Report 2
