By Hoandi !Gaeb Keetmanshoop The Old Mutual Foundation last week donated furniture worth close to N$35 000 to the J.R. Camm Senior Primary School at the southern town of Aranos. Old Mutual’s Group Schemes Executive, Nico //Hoabeb, travelled to Aranos to hand over the donation. At the occasion, Old Mutual said that in keeping with its strategic objectives, the organization strives to be a responsible corporate citizen by empowering the communities in which it operates through the support of sustainable initiatives. It is against this background that the Old Mutual Foundation agreed to donate tables, chairs and cutlery shelves to the tune of N$34 164. Located in the heart of the Kalahari, the school has an enrolment of 300 learners of which 150 are boarders. Receiving the donation on behalf of the school, the Governor of the Hardap Region, Katrina Hanse, said she was well aware of the history of informal hostels and the problems teachers and learners are facing in such institutions. She said she used to be a teacher at Aranos and was aware of the history of informal hostels and the problems teachers and learners are facing in such institutions. She said the government was serious about rural development, hence the incorporation of the Rural Development Directorate under the Ministry of Regional, Local Government and Housing. She said Old Mutual’s donation was in line with that ideal. The Governor commended Old Mutual for its continuous support to community projects as well as its selfless inputs towards the upliftment of the poorest of the poor, particularly in the education sector. Earlier, Old Mutual donated N$500 to the St. James Soup Kitchen of the AME Church in Mariental.
