OPEN Letter Regarding FootBall Coverage
You are certainly aware that the Supersport channels, particularly their extensive football coverage, are one of the main reasons why Namibians have taken out MultiChoice subscriptions.
The subscription is not cheap and was based on a promise of receiving a certain set of channels.
Your unilateral decision to cancel 80% of the English Premier League Football matches thus amounts to a unilateral violation of that contract.
According to press reports, you indicated that another company outbid MultiChoice. However, South Africa seemingly still receives the full coverage.
MultiChoice’s action thus smacks of discrimination against the rest of Africa while its ‘home base’ South Africa still enjoys full benefits.
Press reports further indicate that MultiChoice will not be able to improve the football coverage for its viewers in Namibia and other African countries. In this case, you have an obligation to substantially reduce the MultChoice subscription fees to compensate for the loss of services that you imposed on your clients.
Failure to do that would amount to disregard for your own customers.
I hope that MultiChoice will not just display the arrogance of other monopoly companies but instead will value its customers and compensate them for the loss of service.
We will judge your company by the actions you will take.
Yours sincerely
