Murder docket finally in court

Home Crime and Courts Murder docket finally in court

WINDHOEK – The docket of three City Police officers Werner Johannes Shekekela, Kleopas Shikalepo Kapalanga and Elia Nakale who face a charge of murder after they allegedly brutally assaulted a teenager was presented before the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday last week.

End of last month the matter was remanded to November 7 because the docket was not in court.

Magistrate Hileni Kavara then ruled at the end of October that the matter would proceed on November 7, but it was the final remand for the docket to be brought to court.

On Thursday the magistrate also ruled that it was the final postponement for investigations, before she remanded the matter to February 5 2014 for further investigations.

The three allegedly beat 17-year-old Mandela Ramakhutla in April this year, during his arrest, and he later died in the Katutura State Hospital.

The three men are out on bail, which was also extended.

Initially the three suspects faced a charge of assault, but after Ramakhutla died in hospital, Khomas Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Sylvanus Ngishindimbwa said the charge of assault against the three officers would be changed to murder.
