OTJIWARONGO – The National African Students Association (NASA) held a conference at Otjiwarongo over the weekend to elect new leadership.
In an interview with Nampa on Monday, NASA founding member Paulus Vihemba said 80 students from different universities across the country attended the conference.
They elected Muzani Muzani from the University of Namibia (Unam) Rundu campus as the new president.
Vihemba has been the NASA president since its inception in 2019.
The conference also elected Elizabeth Silas from the Unam southern campus in the //Kharas region as the deputy president, as well as Claudia Valombola as the secretary general of the association.
Valombola, a student at the International University of Management (IUM) at Swakopmund in the Erongo region, will be deputised by Rose Kameya from the Unam Rundu campus.
NASA’s new treasurer is Manfred Haingura, also from the Rundu campus, while Olavi Lazarus from the Unam Hifikepunye Pohamba campus is the new academic officer for higher education affairs, along with Simazena Mungomba from the Katima Mulilo campus.
“We also elected several students, who will serve as sport affairs officers, student liaison for international and national affairs, as well as spokesperson,” said Vihemba.
He announced that Erastus Awino from Triumphant College in Katima Mulilo was elected the sports and cultural officer, while Duplessis Sibinda, also from the Katima Mulilo campus is the association’s new research and policy officer.
The conference elected Edward Tjihinga from the Unam Rundu campus as the spokesperson, while Minsozi Kamanga from Triumphant College in Katima Mulilo is the student services and liaison officer.
Western Ngeno from IUM’s Ongwediva Campus is the new national coordinator.
The new leadership is expected to serve the association for one year.
