For Valentine’s Day this year, we took a short trip to the newly-renovated Midgard Lodge of O&L Leisure.
I am going to get straight into what I loved about the prospect of this visit.
As we all know, Namibian destinations are spread far and wide. Drives to beautiful destinations generally average three to five hours. This is not the case with Midgard Lodge. It is a mere 60km from Okahandja, and not just that! Of the 60km, only about 25km are gravel, so to answer my most-frequently asked question; yes, Midgard Lodge is accessible with a sedan.
My goodness, I was excited to see what O&L had done with the property after recent renovations. Having been to all their other three lodges, I knew I was in for a treat.
We arrived at the lodge just a little over 14h00. We were received with the warmth that is in line with O&L. Our luggage was moved from the car straight to our room, and we were shuttled to reception, where we had a very smooth check-in.
We headed off to our room, and oh my goodness! We were booked into a junior suite.
The room has a beautiful queen-size bed, stunning artwork, a smart TV (I mean!), generous cupboard space, ensuite bathroom with a gorgeous bath, spacious shower and toilet.
I cannot speak about the new Midgard without emphasising the all-round gorgeous interior. Nothing was left to chance. Between the mirroring, the Tivoli taps in the public and private bathrooms, the shelf work; did I mention the lamps? I am rambling, but you would need to see it to fully understand.
My favourite of the newly-redecorated areas is the bar. The area is not only gorgeous, but the barmen make some of the best non-alcoholic Mojitos I have had to date.
The lodge has an offering that is unique to it: a collection of antique cars for visitors’ viewing. Stunning!
The food was more on the underwhelming side, although, credit to them, they had a wedding during our time of visit, so that could have factored heavily. We had a burger and steak for dinner on our first night from a menu of limited choice.
For lunch the following day, we both had chicken wings and although delicious, I again felt limited by the menu. Breakfast, however, has always been a feast. We were spoilt for choice. The bread was fresh, juice was available in abundance, and the service was spectacular. We enjoyed our breakfast with a gorgeous garden view of the greenery.
While we are on service, Jeanette was such a joy to have served us. Nothing seemed too hard a task for her. She was kind, went the extra mile, and always made us feel important.
My favourite activity at the lodge was the romantic picnic the lodge arranged for us. It was perfectly located in a tiny hideaway just behind the restaurant. It was beautifully put together, the arrangement was stunning and thoughtful enough to not only have our favourite cocktails, but non-alcoholic champagne as well.
We ended our beautiful getaway with a spa session. A “Heart of the ocean facial” by Richelle, who was so kind, and a back and neck massage.
Therefore, if you ever need a break from the city, check out the newly-revamped Midgard Lodge. It was well worth the money.
