Local sprint sensation Christine Mboma on Saturday again left all in awe when she clocked an astonishing time of 49.22 seconds to win the 400m race at the Athletics Namibia (AN) National Championship held at the Independence stadium over the weekend.
She was closely trailed by stablemate Beatrice Masilingi, who took second place with her time of 50.05 seconds. In yesterday’s proceedings at the same venue, Masilingi took top honours in the 200m event when she clocked 22.38 seconds to win the race.
Speaking to New Era Sport coach and trainer Henk Botha, who oversees both Masilingi and Mboma, said it has now become normal for him to see the two athletes set and break new records. He however, added that it is always nice to have good records on home soil.
“I won’t say that I was surprised to see the two break and set records because you never plan these records, you have to work for them. These two must keep up the same momentum and it is nice to have good records on home soil. I hope they continue to work hard and set more records,” he said.
