Teacher dies after shebeen fight

A 30-year-old man succumbed to head injuries a day after he was hit with a brick on the forehead, following a physical fight at Havana Bar in Omuthiya.

According to the police crime report, the incident happened on Saturday around 23h00, where it is alleged that the victim Thomas Mega-Mega Nambahu, a teacher at Olupale Combined School, was hit with a brick after he tried to pursue the murder suspect with an Okapi knife.

“The victim and suspect were separated – and after some time, the deceased went to his car and came back with an Okapi knife, and started chasing the suspect. While running, the suspect picked up a brick, threw it and hit deceased on the forehead. He fell down and was rushed to Omuthiya State Hospital. The same night, he was transferred to Oshakati State Hospital in a serious but stable condition,” states the report.

The matter was reported on Sunday afternoon, and a case was registered.

While arrangements were being made to visit the victim, a report of his demise was received at 13h00 on Monday.

The suspect, Matheus Mbangula (31), was arrested and appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court, where he was denied bail, and the matter was remanded to 30 May 2022.

The suspect was a domestic employee of the bar owner.
