By Surihe Gaomas WINDHOEK Stock theft has again reared its ugly head in Okakarara district where eight head of cattle worth N$27ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 800 were recently stolen. However, the animals were quickly recovered by members of the Namibian Police who caught the suspects in the act. The incident occurred last weekend at an unspecified time at a farm called Okangoho in that district, when two suspects on horseback allegedly chased the cattle off the farm area. According to the latest crime bulletin, the suspects started to run away with the stolen cattle when they noticed that members of the police were chasing them. However, when they realized the danger they were in, they “abandoned the livestock and sped off.” While all the cattle were recovered, the suspects are still at large and police investigations continue. Still in Otjozondjupa, an elderly couple fell victim to a robbery at Outjo at around 17h00, when they were robbed of their valuables. “At house Number 21 Sam Nujoma Drive, a couple aged 66 and 65 years old were assaulted, tied with a torn bed sheet and robbed of an Omega wristwatch worth N$3ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000 and N$400 in cash,” reads the report. Although the incident was reported to a security company, the police only learnt about it after one of its officers, passing nearby the scene of the crime and suspecting that something was wrong at the couple’s residence, stopped to investigate. Eventually a 29-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the robbery, but the stolen items have not yet been recovered. In another case of robbery with aggravating circumstances, in the capital, a young woman was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight. The incident happened at about 14h00 at Gutenberg Platz on Tuesday this week. The thieves got away with “her wallet containing N$2ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 100, a cellphone, car keys, pillows, handbag and other personal cards.” The value of the stolen items totalled N$5ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000. The police are still looking for a man and a woman connected to the robbery. At Oshakati, a young trial-awaiting prisoner made his getaway by jumping out of a police vehicle, and ran off. This occurred on Tuesday this week at about 11h00 along Onaanda gravel road Uukwambi, when 13-year-old Lisias Kuume made his escape. The suspect is still at large while police investigation continue. This week, three young women were allegedly raped in Katima Mulilo and Ruacana – two of them aged 21 in the Caprivi Region, and the third, a 16-year-old, in a mahangu field at Ovikange village in the Ruacana area. It is further reported that a 49-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the rapes. In the north, a 23-year-old man was caught by the Namibian Police over the weekend in Ombalantu area after being found in possession of a pen flare (pen-gun) ammunition without authority.
