Unam’s Ogongo campus has lost 29 cows worth N$165 500 after suspects entered the premises between 10 and 11 January under the cover of darkness.

The Omusati Police said it is alleged that the suspect(s) cut the main campus fence, and drove the herd of cattle out during the night.

Ogongo staff, students and the community have been trying to search for the cattle in the area of Ogongo and Ruacana, but did not find any. There is also no information related to the cattle theft.

There are two cattle camps at the Ogongo Unam premises, where one camp had 29 cattle while the other one had 79.

The cattle all have government ear tags, and some cattle have horns.

No cattle have been recovered, and the suspect(s) are still unknown.

Training at Ogongo focuses on agriculture, the management of natural resources and environmental science. 

Police have appealed to the public to contact any police station or the supervisor at the Ogongo campus on 0812894825 with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect(s).
