ONGWEDIVA - Former learners at Canisianum Roman Catholic High School have expressed their concern over the school’s performance in last year’s examinations.
Over the years CRCHS ranked amongst the top performing schools in the country and has been taking the second spot in the country. This has however changed with the 2022 academic year when the school was ranked third in the National Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary level (NSSCAS).
The director of education in the Omusati region, Benny Eiseb expressed disappointment towards the school’s 2022 academic ranking. Eiseb expects the school to rank at position one for both the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary level (NSSCO) and the National Certificate Advanced Subsidiary level (NSSCAS) 2023 academic year respectively.
The former learners, who are now senior citizens, attended the school in the year 1972 to 1977, which is more than 40 years ago. Speaking on behalf of all the donors, Josephat Aipinge said they longed to come back to the school because they received a solid educational foundation there. “Thanks to this foundation we became what we are today,” said Aipinge. The school’s alumni also donate information technology equipment. “Information technology has transformed the way we learn and has made education more accessible. With online learning platforms, teachers and learners can access educational resources from anywhere in the world, allowing for more flexible and personalised learning experience. Hence, a decision to donate computer equipment,” said Aipinge while officially handing over the learning aids.
The technical equipment donated included 10 computers and three laptops worth over N$130 000. A few Namibian companies such as Noshisha, Juda Accord Investment, Moonstone and Woermann & Brock also contributed money.
The principal of the high school, Henriette Ainama also expressed concern over the school’s 2022 results and said the donation has come during the right time and at the right place.
“You have not just done this to enhance and uplift a child in Canisianum RCHS, you have done this for a Namibian child, equally for an African child to go out there and make it in the world,” said Ainama.
Speaking on behalf of his fellow learners, Vision Iyambo expressed sincere gratitude and said with the new curriculum demanding learners to use computers and technology, the donation has come at the right time.
“The additional technological materials donated to us will be of great use in helping our learners excel to greater heights. Your donation of computers will fervently improve the academic performances at our school two-and-fold,” said Iyambo.
