Jericho drops 'The Signature'

Namibian rap sensation Jericho Gawanab made waves on Friday with the launch of his seventh album, ‘The Signature’, at The Catch in Windhoek.

The event attracted crowds of music enthusiasts eager to witness Jericho’s newest musical offering.

In an interview with VIBEZ, he expressed excitement about the album’s release, boldly proclaiming himself as ‘the signature of the industry.’ Explaining the album’s title, Jericho drew a metaphor between his music and the act of signing a cheque.

“When you sign a cheque, you need to put down a signature. So, my first million are coming out of ‘The Signature,’ and I’m going to sign that cheque,” he said.

He explained that his latest album is not the final album because one can never predict the future. What he knows is that he is not giving up anytime soon, and will not disappear again from the industry. He is here to stay. His back was on it. Sober habits. So, there are still more albums.

“I can’t lie, I have a mature album, and I don’t want to compare it to anybody else’s album. It took me a lot of time, a couple of years, to put the lyrics together, to get the right beats. I’m trying to fit in with the new kids as well; that’s why you can see I’ve experienced a lot of new songs as well. But at the end of the day, I’m very happy with this album. This is the seventh album. I never believed I would come this far, but I’m here,” he said.

The release of the album titled ‘The Signature’ follows a three-year hiatus since his last studio album. With a compilation of 16 tracks, the album is a fusion of genres, blending new-school and old-school sounds.

The album launch was a celebration of his talent and creativity, drawing music enthusiasts from across the country.

Fernando Hendricks, a supporter and artist, said Jericho deserves to be called king, and after this album launch, he has a deep respect for him. He added that Jericho has talent, and nobody can take that away from him.

“From what I have heard tonight, I’m terrified. I don’t know if that’s the right thing to say, but I’m an artist myself, and I think he’s got some really good stuff.

I am glad I came out here tonight, and I hate to say this, but it’s true: I have to pull up my socks, but from an inspiration point, from a motivation point as well,’’ he said.
