The Namibian Police have reported three cases of murder committed over the weekend.

The report said Namibian Shiimi Onesmus Major, 40, died after he was stabbed once with a knife in the chest by a known suspect on Saturday at around 12h30 at the Okapanda location, Akaonde village in the Onesi constituency of the Omusati region.

It is alleged that Major walked out from a shebeen where he and the suspect were drinking. Soon afterwards, he was stabbed once with a knife in the chest, and died on the spot. His next of kin have been informed.

The suspect fled the scene.

Also on Saturday, a 31-year-old Namibian man was arrested after it is alleged that he stabbed Nambala Titus Address, 31, with an Okapi knife once on the right side of his chest. The victim walked a few metres away from the cucashop before he fell to the ground on his stomach and died at around 20h00 at Enongo location in Otamanzi village, Omusati region.

Another case of murder was recorded in Windhoek’s Otjomuise area following a house breaking in Madawas Street, Khomasdal.

It is reported that two male persons were found breaking a house’s gate by members of the City Police. The officers gave a verbal warning for the two men to stop and not to flee the scene, but the two started running whilst shooting at the law-enforcers.

The City Police members responded back by shooting, and one bullet hit one of the suspects. The victim was later declared dead by a paramedic. The suspect is known, but not yet arrested. Police investigations continue.

Smuggling

The police have also confiscated various illicit products smuggled into Namibia from neighbouring Angola - valued at approximately N$200 000 - over the past weekend.

The report stated that a 31-year-old Namibian male bus driver was arrested at the Tsumeb four-way police roadblock after being found in possession of prohibited 50ml sachets of Best Whisky worth N$52 800.

Furthermore, another Namibian male bus driver, aged 52, was arrested after his bus with Windhoek registration number was intercepted while travelling from Oshikango to Windhoek, carrying illicit goods.

The driver was found in possession of Yes cigarettes and Best Whisky with a total value of N$128 700.

Both suspects were expected to appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old Namibian female suspect was arrested on Saturday at Engoyi at Okatope village, Onyaanya constituency in the Oshikoto region after she was found in possession of illegal fuel, and failed to provide proof of purchase.

The suspect was found in possession of 45 x 25 litre containers of diesel fuel, 1 x 20 litre container of diesel, and 5 x 5 litre containers of diesel. All are valued at N$25 307.
