Tjihuura-Katurota lands Opuwo CEO job

Opuwo Town Council has appointed Matjandjara Tjihuura-Katurota as its new CEO.

Tjihuura-Katurota, a seasoned employee in the local authorities’ sphere, will commence her latest assignment on 1 August, taking over from Petrus Shuuya, whose contract was not extended.

In the interim, Karui Rikambura occupies the position in an acting capacity.

Confirming the news to New Era, Opuwo mayor Rosa Mbinge-Tjeundo lauded the recruitment process as fair and transparent.

“We followed all recruitment procedures – and in the process delivered the town’s first female CEO. We are, therefore, excited as a council and looking forward to welcoming her to our fold on 1 August 2023. She will be welcomed by the entire council, community and stakeholders,” Mbinge-Tjeundo said.

At the moment, Tjihuura-Katurota is the finance manager at the Omaruru Municipality.

“We know she’s from a financial background, and it’s a plus for the town. As you know, we have been struggling with sourcing money for our strategic objectives. Without money, you won’t achieve development.

“So, having someone with the expertise, prudence and ability to attract investment is an added advantage. We are looking forward to this new chapter,” the Popular Democratic Movement councillor said.

She added: “Over the years, we have not been able to score a clean audit, not necessarily because we failed to account but mainly due to lack of capacity”.

Tjihuura-Katurota is a seasoned executive of 17 years, 14 of which were in financial management at various local authorities. Her current managerial role focuses on finances and assets.

Her journey started up north at Ruacana Town before moving to the Okahandja Municipality. Before heading to Omaruru, she headed the finance and administration department at the Karibib municipality.

A trained soldier, Tjihuura-Katurota has a Master’s Degree in international business from the Namibia University of Science and Technology and another in accounting from the University of Namibia in her acumen.

“I am excited and ready for the challenge that lies ahead,” she said.
