Unearthing fresh talent remains our focus - Benhard

With their first boxing bonanza for the year slated for early next month, MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club chairman Joseph Benhard says their mission for 2022 is to continue unearthing raw talent and developing the sport in the northern parts of the country.

He said their focus remains to create new opportunities for upcoming boxers at amateur level, while also providing the community with top boxing activities.

The bonanza will take place at the Ongwediva Multi-purpose centre on 3 March, and will feature more than 10 fights.

Some boxers will be turning professional on the night, while others will be competing for national titles.

“All those boxers that competed at last year’s amateur boxing events will now be turning professional on the night. With many of our boxers now aging, this event and many others to come will provide the youngsters an opportunity to come through and claim their stake. We are looking at the bigger picture to ensure that talent is groomed,” said Benhard.

“We are ready for our upcoming event and one can also see that the boxers are physically and mentally ready for the big day. We have been preparing since we announced the bonanza early January. We are expecting a huge turnout and great entertainment.”

Tickets are pegged at N$250 for VIP seats, while general tickets will cost N$50. Covid-19 protocols will be enforced, and no one will be allowed to enter the venue without a mask.
