Police in Omusati are investigating a case in which a woman was allegedly raped in her home while under the influence of alcohol. The complainant, who is 24-year-old, allegedly discovered the rape incident that took place on 5 February 2022 had resulted in an unwanted pregnancy. Crime investigations coordinator for Omusati Moses Simaho said the victim, who is a resident of Outapi, went to sleep that fateful day without locking her shack, as she was too intoxicated to do so. While sleeping, an unknown man entered her shack between 22h00 and 04h00 and allegedly raped her. Two months later, the woman discovered she was pregnant.

It was only then that she reported the case to the police. The suspect is unknown and investigations into the matter are continuing. In another incident that also took place in Omusati, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle at Okalondo village in Otamanzi constituency. The incident allegedly took place on 23 March 2022 but it was only reported recently. Police said the suspect intentionally and unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the minor in a mahangu field. The suspect is well known as the victim was allegedly placed under his care while she was attending classes at a nearby school. He is yet to be arrested, according to Simaho.  Police have urged the public to always report the rape incidents on time so that the police can investigate timeously.
