WINDHOEK

Ramblers and Cymot SKW booked their places in the semifinal of the First National Bank (FNB) Cup yesterday when they beat Orlando Pirates and African Stars on penalties respectively.

After a goalless draw at the Independence Stadium yesterday, Ramblers beat Pirates 5-4 on penalties after an exciting but goalless ninety minutes.
Former Black Africa and Brave Warriors striker Saul Coetzee missed the last penalty to hand over the victory to Ramblers.

In the first match of the afternoon Cymot SKW finally got their revenge against African Stars when they finally managed to beat them in this cup competition. Over the last two years SKW have always been eliminated by Stars in this competition.

The goalless displays yesterday were a disappointment for many of the supporters who were treated to a goal feast on Saturday.

On Saturday SKW heaped more misery on Oshakati City when they humiliated the northern-based side 3-0.

Despite boasting with the striker of the moment Muna Katupose and former Brave Warriors striker Cascus Angula, City could break the well-disciplined SKW side and it was the SKW strikers who did all the talking.

City who ended second last season in the league are finding the going tough and have now been knocked out of the FNB Cup in the first round and are lying a disappointing tenth position on the log.

On Saturday Ramblers demolished Tigers FC by beating them 4-1 while African Stars also enjoyed their afternoon, beating coastal giants Blue Waters FC by the same margin.

Pirates beat Fedics in the last game on Saturday 2-1 before their journey was cut short by Ramblers yesterday.

Ramblers FC and Cymot SKW now join Eleven Arrows and Black Africa in the semi-finals that promise fireworks. Arrows and Black Africa emerged from the first group, which played in Walvis Bay a week ago.

FNB Group Corporate Communications Manager, Cassius Moetie said they are planning an official draw for the semi-finalists on Tuesday, 30th October to determine which of the four clubs will lock horns to separate the boys from the men in the 2007 edition of the FNB Cup.

Each goal scored in the FNB Cup, except for penalties, will cost FNB and the Namibia Premier League [NPL] N$100 and the total amount will go towards two HIV/Aids charities.

The FNB Cup final will be played on December 1, World Aids Day. The two teams in the final will share the proceeds of the goals scored to donate to the two HIV/Aids charities.
