The Cell One Road to Fame crew has certainly been busy and spent the past weekend in the Oshikoto Region. They were welcomed with open arms to the mining town of Tsumeb and their appearance created an unusual stir in this normally quiet northern town.

Following an exciting Friday with the opening of the La Plaza Shopping Centre and a street parade, the Cell One Road to Fame crew got down to business and held the regional auditions at the Tsumeb Community Hall on Saturday, October 27 and the Sunday Funday at the Norich Stadium on Sunday. While Jericho entertained the crowds, the judges had a hard time deciding on a winner. Eventually Maresca van Staden was chosen as the Oshikoto regional finalist, who will represent her area at the finals early next year.

Maresca, 16, was born in Grootfontein but grew up in Tsumeb.

She is a scholar at Tsumeb Secondary School and enjoys singing and reading.

Chief Executive Officer of Cell One, Lars Christian said: “We at Cell One are extremely pleased with the way that the competition is going and especially the fact that our roadshow crew receive such warm welcomes in every region that they visit. Cell One has always said that we WILL make a difference in the lives of Namibians and we believe that this competition is providing the platform for us to entrench ourselves in the various communities.”

The Cell One Road to Fame crew will take a week’s break and then head off in a new direction during the second week of November.
