RUNDU – The police in Rundu are pleading for help to trace the driver who killed a 56-year-old soldier stationed at the Rundu army base on Friday evening.
Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton said an unknown vehicle crashed into Johannes Angula near the Rundu army base on the Trans-Zambezi Highway around 21h15. He died at the scene.
The deceased held the rank of a lance corporal.
Bampton said the driver fled the scene without stopping.
“Our people like walking on the road, that is why we have so many pedestrian related accidents in the region. Drivers must also adhere to the speed limit if we are to end this situation,” cautioned the deputy commissioner.
The next of kin of the deceased have been informed and the search for the driver and the vehicle continues.
He urged anyone with information about the incident to get in touch with the police.
