Bethold Karumendu, the Secretary General of Athletic Namibia (AN) track and field, has expressed optimism that Pupkewitz’s sponsorship of their Grand Prix series will serve as a significant motivator for athletes to deliver their best performances.
AN is gearing up to host the second leg of their Grand Prix series this weekend at Independence Stadium in the capital, where athletes from across the nation will compete for top honours. This week, AN announced Pupkewitz’s sponsorship of their Grand Prix series without disclosing the amount they are committing or how long the partnership would be for.
According to Karumendu, over 30 clubs across Namibia are expected to participate in the exciting event.
“Registration is ongoing until tomorrow (today), so I cannot provide the exact number of clubs and athletes expected to compete on Saturday. However, we anticipate a significant turnout, with potentially more than 30 clubs entering the competition as they aspire to see their athletes vie for top prizes,” he explained.
Regarding the partnership with Pupkewitz, Karumendu emphasised the timing of the sponsorship, coinciding with athletes’ preparations for various major competitions. He highlighted how the sponsorship would elevate competition among athletes by offering prizes that were not previously available.
“This partnership is crucial and has arrived at the opportune moment; we have Olympic qualifiers and other significant events approaching.
Athletes will be motivated to strive harder with Pupkewitz’s support, as they now have the opportunity to win prizes-a concept that was previously absent.
With Pupkewitz’s assistance, the association will be better equipped to host successful events without any setbacks,” he added.
On Saturday, anticipate the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 1500m races as the main event, which will start at 16h00 and end at 22h00.
