RUNDU – A teenage cattle herder is on the run after allegedly accidentally shooting a man at Zigizi village in Kavango West on Wednesday.

It was reported by witnesses that the suspect (17) was playing with a shotgun when shots were fired and hit the unidentified victim on the arm. He sustained serious injuries.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon at around 13h00.

“The report was received only at around 17h00 – and by the time police went to the scene, the victim had bled to death,’’ said the Kavango West Police commander Julia Sakuwa-Neo, who confirmed the incident to New Era.

“The suspect is known to be from Okongo in the Ohangwena region, and he is a Namibian national,” she said.

In another murder case, the police in Kavango West are also investigating a case of murder after an adult male was stabbed to death by a male suspect at Yinsu village, south of Nkurenkuru in Kavango west region.

In a separate matter, reported to have happened at 20h00, a suspect stabbed Sikongo Matheus multiple times with a knife on the left shoulder. He died on the spot.

The suspect managed to flee the scene before the police got there, and he has been on the run since then.

“The deceased’s age is unknown,’’ the commander said.
