Three killed in road accident

Home Archived Three killed in road accident

SWAKOPMUND – Three construction workers died instantly and seven other persons were seriously injured yesterday morning when an Isuzu pick-up truck (bakkie) they were travelling in overturned about 30 kilometres outside Swakopmund on the way to Arandis.

Namibian Police Force (Nampol) Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa yesterday afternoon confirmed the incident and said the vehicle was transporting 10 workers from Walvis Bay to Arandis when the vehicle overturned. It is believed the driver lost control of the vehicle that veered off the road. The three people who lost their lives succumbed to internal injuries sustained after all the workers were thrown clear of the vehicle as it rolled over. Bystanders at the scene found some of the workers writhing in pain while the lifeless bodies were covered in cement and bricks scattered all over the place.

Kashuupulwa said the names of the deceased could not be released until the bodies were identified by their next of kin. A separate accident involving an Opel bakkie also occurred some 20 kilometres from the place where the Isuzu overturned.
