By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK A versatile African-American singer, actor, director, teacher and writer will arrive in the country towards the end of this month to perform and present several master classes in music and theatre at various institutions in the capital. Ray Castillo the director of the American Cultural Centre announced this during an Art/Life interview this week. Artist Seth Sharp is a native of Hartford, Connecticut, but is currently staying in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. He has delivered command performances for President Bill Clinton, Mother Theresa in Calcutta and travellers on the luxury passenger ship QE2. A Carnegie Hall performance is also part of his resume. While studying at Yale University Sharp founded a theatre company that produced undergraduate plays and musicals. “As an actor Seth has performed at various regional theatres in the USA as well as off-Broadway and he has been honoured by the NAACP for his musical pursuits. His repertoire includes gospel, soul, Prince, 1950″s oldies, Motown, musical theatre, rock and roll, contemporary R&B, jazz, rhythm and blues, funk and jazz-funk,” Castillo said. The artists has previously done consultancy work for schools in the New York Public School System in staff development, play-writing and bringing text to life through drama and music in the classroom. “Seth has also worked extensively with special needs people, including autistic children in theatre and music. He specializes in bring arts into the classroom as part of integrating arts into the education system. He is able to work with playwriting and screen writing students,” Castillo said. Sharp is coming to Namibia as part of the Black History Month and will stage various performances at the Warehouse and National Theatres, the College of the Arts and a special performance at the residence of American ambassador, Joyce Barr on Thursday March 1.
