Two Booted for Illegal Strike

Home Archived Two Booted for Illegal Strike

By William J.Mbangula OSHAKATI Two workers of Spar of Frans Aupa Indongo at Ongwediva were dismissed on Thursday, April 20 after they were found guilty by a disciplinary hearing of having staged an illegal strike. The duo is part of a group of 27 employees hauled before a disciplinary hearing, which continues today. More dismissals are likely. So far, only the two have been dealt with while the rest will face their fate at today’s hearings. One of the dismissed workers John Nangolo, a shopsteward of Nafau and an alleged ringleader of the strike, told New Era that the chairperson of the hearing, a certain Mario, was biased in favour of the employer. The other dismissed worker is Simon Iipinge. Their disciplinary hearing and subsequent dismissals are a sequel to an incident which took place on Thursday, April 13 when about 30 permanent and casual workers demonstrated in front of the shop at Ongwediva demanding salary increments, death and pension benefits. Approached for comment Spar Group labour consultant and spokesperson Gotty Ndjendjela switched off his cell phone when asked about the incident.
