Wanderers delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, defeating Trustco United with an emphatic 47-24 scoreline in the latest round of the FNB Rugby Premier League at Wanderers Field in Windhoek.
The win allowed Wanderers to maintain their position at the summit of the league standings as the title race heats up.
Wanderers’ captain Jacques Theron expressed pride in his team’s execution and determination on the field.
“I am extremely proud of the team. They played with heart and discipline. United put up a strong fight. We thank them for the challenge. We are fortunate to have a deep squad to choose from. That gives us the confidence moving forward. Kudus is always a strong team. We’re already looking forward to that match-up,” he remarked.
Despite the loss, Trustco United’s captain JD Nel remained optimistic, acknowledging the learning curve.
“Wanderers showed depth and composure. They executed their game plan better. For us, it’s back to the training ground on Monday. This is an opportunity to reflect and improve. We’ll come back stronger,” he said.
In other league action, Grootfontein 1 surged into third place on the log with a convincing 40-13 victory over Dolphins.
The win saw them leapfrog Trustco United, who slipped to fourth after their loss to Wanderers.
Meanwhile, Kudus showcased their championship aspirations with a commanding 38-8 triumph over Reho Falcon, further tightening their grip on second place.
Unam also celebrated success over the weekend, notching a 43-28 win against Rehoboth 1.
Despite their solid performance, Unam remained in fifth position on the log.
The lower half of the table saw no major movement, with Western Suburbs 1, Rehoboth 1, Reho Falcon and Dolphins continuing to occupy the bottom spots.
As the competition enters its crucial stages, all eyes will be on the upcoming clashes, particularly the highly-anticipated fixture between Wanderers and Kudus – two powerhouses aiming for league glory this weekend.
