Woman arraigned for throwing   child in well

The police in Ohangwena have arraigned an Angolan woman whose suspected child’s remains were discovered in a well at Omunyekadi village in the Ondobe constituency last week.

The 22-year-old woman is charged with murder read with the domestic violence act for allegedly throwing her child down the well.

It is not yet known whether she killed the child before throwing him in the well.

Police spokesperson in Omusati, Kaume Iitumba said a villager who was drawing water from the well discovered the decomposed body.

Iitumba said the child was last seen last week Monday with the mother. The mother, upon interrogation, claimed that she had taken her child to Angola.

“It is yet to be confirmed whether the child was indeed taken to Angola, but the description of the clothes match that of the child the woman was last seen with,” said Iitumba.

The body has been retrieved from the well.

Investigation into the matter continues.
