Namibia’s U/20 men’s national football team has officially began preparations for the upcoming Cosafa U/20 Championship, which forms part of the Region 5 Games scheduled to take place in Namibia from 4 to 23 July.
Assistant coach Mamie Kasaona expressed optimism about the squad, stating that after an initial assessment, the players appear active and ready for the challenge ahead. “We have a fairly good squad. The boys look like they’ve been playing regularly, and we’re happy with the level they are showing,” she said.
She also called on the public to come out in numbers and support the team, especially now that the Namibia Premier Football League has concluded.
The team will be led by head coach Jeremy Zimmer, who highlighted that many of the players are currently competing in the MTC HopSol Youth League, which remains in full swing. As a result, the coaching team will place more emphasis on tactical work rather than fitness. “The players are in match rhythm already, so we’re focusing on helping them understand our playing methodology. We’ll test different combinations in a few friendly matches and will hold daily training and video analysis sessions to reinforce expectations,” Zimmer said.
Namibia finds itself in Pool A alongside Angola, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. Pool B consists of South Africa, Zambia, Eswatini, and Botswana.
The Cosafa U/20 Championship serves as a vital stepping stone for young footballers, offering them a platform to break into the senior national team — the Brave Warriors — and to attract the attention of top-tier clubs in the domestic Premier League.
The squad consists of:
Goalkeepers: Rodriques Ganeb, Mcheni Kavendjii
