Youth forum offers free offshore oil, gas training

The Namibia Youth Energy Forum (NYEF) has formed a strategic partnership with a global company, Atlas Professionals, to roll out an offshore training programme for the youth.

This programme, called the Greenhand Programme, has been successfully implemented in other countries, including Aberdeen in the United Kingdom, Brazil, and is currently underway in Suriname.

Following these successes, the programme is set to be rolled out in the Namibian capital Windhoek, as well as Walvis Bay and Lüderitz.

In a media statement, the NYEF said the Greenhand Programme is designed to provide comprehensive offshore training, equipping Namibian youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the oil and gas sector. The initiative is being implemented in partnership with various international oil and gas drilling companies and oil companies.

“NYEF is excited to leverage this opportunity to bring this training to Namibia, marking the first time it will be offered in the country, and it will be provided free of charge,” the forum stated.

Commenting on the partnership, Dorriane Zammit, international business development manager of Atlas Professionals, expressed enthusiasm: “I am super-excited to be working with the Namibia Youth Energy Forum and other stakeholders in the country to provide this training opportunity. This programme has seen great success in the UK, Brazil and Suriname, and I am thrilled to bring it to Namibia to upskill the youth and maximise local content.”
