The Frank Fredericks Foundation awarded scholarships worth N$85 000 to eight track and field local athletes who excelled at the Namibia Schools Sports Union National Athletics Competitions in May.
The scholarships were given to motivate aspiring athletes to work towards qualifying for the World Junior Championships 2026.
Schuster Julien-Ann (Hardap region), received
N$20 000 for being the fastest in the girls’ 100metre (m) and 200m categories.
She clocked 12.26 seconds in the 100m and 25.64 seconds in the 200m. Kambiri Kazaatjo (Omaheke region) was awarded N$10 000 for her victory in the 400m, achieving 58.45 seconds.
Prince Daniel Gawaseb (Hardap region) received N$10 000 for having the best time in the 100m, which was 10.88 seconds.
Martin Nghililewanga (Khomas region) received N$10 000 for his excellent performance in the 200m, with a winning time of 21.83 seconds.
Auchamab Danny Boy (Otjozondjupa region) was awarded N$10 000 for his victory in the 400m, with a time of 49.27 seconds. Eshiko Paavo (Oshikoto region) was awarded N$10 000 for his 800m performance.
Isaaks Matt-Reece (Khomas region) was recognised as the most valuable athlete during the event and was awarded a scholarship. He competed in the 1500m and 3000m. Mihescho Mouton was awarded N$5 000. He demonstrated remarkable potential by winning the boys U/15 200m race.
This year, the foundation awarded four scholarships to the tune of N$40 000 from January to April, a back-to-school programme valued at N$100 000, and competition travel grants valued at N$7 000.
The Frank Fredericks Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to young talented athletes.
It awards them with scholarships for both educational and sports purposes.
