Rundu
An inmate was found dead after he reportely hanged himself with a piece of blanket at around 04h00 on Sunday at Elizabeth Nepemba Correctional Facility, located some 15 km west of Rundu.
The correctional facility is located along the Rundu-Grootfontein road in Kavango West.
It was reported the deceased – whose identify is known to New Era but cannot be revealed because his family is yet to be informed of the incident – is a male from Katima Mulilo. No suicide note was found to indicate why the victim took his own life.
According to the police report, his body was discovered by other inmates, who happened to use the toilet in the early hours of Sunday. His remains were taken to Rundu State Mortuary.
“The inquest was reported to the Rundu police and we later informed the Ncaute police of the Kavango West to finalise the outstanding investigations and register the inquest, as it has happened in their jurisdiction,” said Kavango East Acting Crime Investigations Coordinator Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo.
