A total of 65 entries vying for the 35 categories were submitted to beat the September 30 deadline for the Local Brand Fashion Show and Annual Awards.

The categories are: Brand with a Meaning and Motivation; Most Popular Brand, Best New Comer, Best Seller, Most Popular Brand Social Media, Most Charitable Brand, Brand Owner that worked the most, Journalist of the Year, Token of Appreciation and Most Creative Brand.

According to the Team Shako Marketing Manager, Naftali Nghishekwa, a N$ 27 500 sponsorship has been received from seven different companies for the various awards with the Most Popular Brand Award being the main award receiving N$ 5 000 while normal awards will received between N$1500 –N$3000. “This event will be one of a kind and first ever in Namibia and will be taken as a step up in the Namibian fashion industry,” says Nghishekwa. He adds that, during the event, scheduled for November 27, the nominated brands will be showcasing their products.

The main aim of the awards is to encourage Namibians to wear and support local products apart from international ones. Nghishekwa says N$ 3000 will go to the Most Creative Brand that have used local product on their brands. The Creative Director of Team Shako, Edgar Mathews, says they are still open for more sponsors to perfect the event. Ticket for the main show are N$ 100 normal, while N$ 200 for VIPs and the doors will be opening at six O’clock in the evening (18h00). On October 31, Team Shako is hosting a nomination party at the Tornado in Wernhill Park.
